Confidentiality & validity

Who can read it.
How long it stays valid.

Candidates see status and dates, not letter text. Receiving organizations can read their delivered copies.

01

When a letter is about you

You can see delivery status and the Valid until date. You cannot read, upload, edit, or replace the letter. The pilot has no option to keep reading access.

02

When you write a letter

You can read your letter and withdraw it after submission. Its text and validity date cannot be changed or extended.

03

When you review a letter

Sign in to the receiving organization's view. Access ends after 12 months from delivery or when the recommender withdraws the letter.

04

Recommender details

The writer signs in with the email on the request. Their account name and stated title appear on the letter. Vera does not independently verify their identity or credentials in this pilot.

05

Delivery status

The candidate and recommender can see when a receiving organization first opens a delivered copy. This is not a complete activity log.

06

Pilot scope

Candidates must be 18 or over. Receiving schools are selected from the pilot directory; other organizations are not yet supported.

Letter validity

Validity and reading access have separate dates.

A letter can expire while a recipient still has reading access. Each program or organization decides whether it meets their requirements.

1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, or 5 years. The default is 1 year.
Maximum validity

Valid until
The end of the validity period chosen by the recommender. It starts when the letter is submitted.
After expiry
The letter is marked expired. Copies already delivered retain their separate access period.
Access period
12 months from delivery for each receiving organization, unless the letter is withdrawn.
Withdrawal
The recommender can withdraw a letter, closing access to every delivered copy.
After submission
The letter text and expiry date cannot be edited or extended.
